Small framed painting of old-fashioned English roses with divine aroma
These roses from my garden have the most amazing fragrance! I cannot put that into the painting, but I tried to capture their delicate English Rose beauty. When I arrange a still life composition to paint, I try to find a story within it. In this instance, I put the six pink roses in a glass jar, and it happened so that the most voluptuous of them turned away as if in a sulk while the rest of the company were looking up cheerfully. That gave me the emotional context to work with (it is essential for a good result!) and the title for the painting!
Ideas for displaying the artwork
This small painting of roses in a black gesso frame will look beautiful in any living room but will be especially suitable for a tight spot on a wall in an old traditional house (a Tudor property comes to mind!) If your home has a modern style, try it sharing wall space with a collection of other small artworks creating an eclectic mix. Here at the Roche Gallery, it looks great in a gallery wall display on a curved wall around a circular staircase where only small artworks can fit well.
The practical details
The size of the framed artwork is only a little larger than A4. It has a cord at the back and is ready to hang on a picture hook or a nail.
Signed by the artist on the front. All the details – artist’s name, year of creation, medium and size, are written on the back.
How to care for this painting
This is an oil on canvas board painting, and as such, it is very lightfast. Displaying in full sun will not cause harm to the picture. The artwork’s surface can be touched with clean hands and lightly dusted with a brush. The only hazardous condition is excessive humidity, as it can cause the development of mould on the back of the canvas board and the frame. The frame is made of wood moulding, hand-painted in gesso and finished in wax. All these components are very attractive to pests. If the painting is stored for an extended period, please make sure the environment is dry and pest-free.
