July Garden Posy

July Garden Posy. Still life with roses and lavender from the garden. Oil on canvas
July Garden Posy. Oil on canvas

July Garden Posy – the title is lazy. The subject is familiar. Logistically, it is easy to wander out into the garden and pick what’s available to pose in front of me and paint. Simple logistics saves TIME to get to the POINT of the exercise. The point is to play around with little colour daubs and see what happens.

Pointilism or Serat never appealed. Nevertheless, layering and intermixing pure colours seems to work better for creating light and colour illusions on a flat surface than mixing muddy colours to paint a “realistic” picture. That’s my opinion, or rather the direction of my search at this POINT in TIME.

TIME is an extra dimension that enters the picture in this method. The separation of brushstrokes makes the process and, therefore, the time visible, which is interesting.
