Description

On that day I asked my younger one, Alina, to pose with a rose while I took a few photos. She was wearing a cotton dress with a smoking embroidery on the front. The dress, the rose petals and spiky stem and her soft childish hands all created a delicious mix of textures – perfect material for a mezzotint technique.

I am so glad to have this print – a little memento of a Summer day when I was a Mum of a little girl holding a fading rose…

Mezzotint is one of the intaglio printmaking techniques. It is similar to drypoint. The big advantage of the mezzotint method is its capacity to achieve tonal variations which no other printmaking technique has. Wikipedia gives a good overview of the technique. Or read about the process on my blog
