In 2003 I had a fantastic life model, an 18-year-old student of drama Claire. We worked on many sketches and paintings, all of which were very successful and a sell-out. I created a few intaglio prints based on the live sessions with Claire.
In 2014 she came into the gallery with her husband (who was her boyfriend in 2003). Now she was a mother of three little boys and just as beautiful as a decade earlier.
She remarked it was very nice to have the artworks depicting her ten years younger. At the same time, it felt strange knowing that the pictures with her likeness hang on the walls of people she doesn’t know.
Mezzotint is one of the intaglio printmaking techniques. It is similar to drypoint. The significant advantage of the mezzotint method is its capacity to achieve tonal variations, which no other printmaking technique has.
