River Rother flows past Rye across the flood plane and towards the sea. The view from the Gun Garden gains its drama and variety largely thanks to the play of the sun, skies and clouds. It is especially uplifting after a storm when the sun breaks through the lead clouds. I painted this to bring home a sense of optimism that the view inspired on one of the walks.
“Little Pleasures” is the exhibition of recent works held at ROCHE Gallery in April 2024.
