Series of prints “Hands”

Various images of hands have been my recurring theme for a long time. Often I don’t even realise what I am doing until another picture of hands is in front of me. This is a series of 7 little etchings depicting various states of the human being: generosity, curiosity, protection, care, loss, despair, and creativity.

Etching is an intaglio printmaking technique. It is a rather complex process, requiring many specific materials, like polished metal plates, acids, acid-proof grounds etc… And of course, a printing press!

Once, doodling in the studio, this image came to me as one of those communications from the subconscious. It reflects my view of life and art – a balancing act.

Hands are a recurring image in my work. I draw them often in various contexts. Creativity and hands are connected albeit one can be without the other.
