Description
Melissa came to work with me for a few days in the Summer of 2005. A lovely young woman, very easy to get along with. Somewhere, a generation or two back in her making, she had French and Moroccan genes, giving her an exotic look. She was tall and slightly angular.
Something in Melissa reminded me of Toulouse-Lautrec’s art. It must have been the uninhibited, almost childish and very natural grace of hers. I made a few drawings with watercolour pencils which I love. A couple of graphite sketches became drypoint prints, this being one of them.
I enjoy working on a human form – the most exciting, intriguing, and complex subject there is, in my view. Each model has her or his own energy, which interacts with the energy of the artist. The resulting work is a reflection of both plus the collaborative energy in itself. I find the synergy very interesting.
