THE STORY
Jade came to Rye from South Africa to visit a relative on tour around Europe. Her ethnic roots were wonderfully mixed, with Lebanese, European, and other strands all intertwined, making for a beautiful woman.
Jade was a great female nude model with lovely lines and plenty of patience. When she modelled for me, I created many drawings and paintings. Later some of the life drawings became drypoint original fine art prints and very successful bestselling pictures in our gallery.
I like switching between techniques and styles, and subjects… I get bored quickly and feel it makes my work more fresh and genuine.
This linocut was based on one of the life model drawings and came about because I wanted to try a different technique – linocut is not something I often do.
I like the starkness of this image. And as usual, I aimed to express strong emotion through a minimum of lines.
